Basketball Recap: Elite Piles Up the Points Against Esparto

The matchup between Elite and Esparto on Tuesday hardly resembled the 2-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Elite Eagles breezed by the Esparto Spartans to the tune of 86-23. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Elite's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Armon Maxwell led the charge by putting up 22 points. The dominant performance gave Maxwell a new career-high in points. Dorrion Allen was another key player, scoring 18 points along with six assists and six boards.

Despite the loss, Esparto still got an impressive performance from Landon Yanez, who posted 12 points. That was a full 52.2% of Esparto's points, marking the third time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rocky Boyd, who earned three points and seven rebounds.

Elite has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 6-18 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for Esparto, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-14.

Elite will square off against Leroy Greene Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Esparto, they will challenge Creative Connections Arts Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
