The Perry Central Commodores will square off against the Rock Creek Academy Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Perry Central turned things around against Henryville on Monday. They walked away with an 8-5 win over the Hornets.
Owen Hubert was incredible, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Gehlhausen, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Rock Creek Academy brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They were the clear victors by a 13-4 margin over Columbus Christian on Tuesday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Lions' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Romney Hampton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched six innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. Hampton was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dylan Parente, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Jordan Newton was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Rock Creek Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Columbus Christian only posted an OBP of .320.
Perry Central picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-4. As for Rock Creek Academy, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 2-3 record.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Perry Central has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Rock Creek Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Perry Central's way against Rock Creek Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, as Perry Central made off with a 10-0 victory. Will the Commodores repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
