It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Jackson Red Devils ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They secured a 63-58 W over Mary Persons. The win was just what Jackson needed coming off of a 83-44 loss in their prior game.
Jackson got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Josh Goodrum out in front who scored 22 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Goodrum has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ja'dariyan Pennamon, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.
Ty Dumas and Nemo Jones certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Dumas scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Jones scored 19 points along with six rebounds. It was the first time this season that Dumas scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dee Grier, who scored seven points along with five assists and two steals.
Jackson has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-16 record this season. As for Mary Persons, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 14 of their last 16 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-18 record this season.
Jackson and Lamar County will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for Mary Persons, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Upson-Lee at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Upson-Lee will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Mary Persons surely won't give up without a fight.
