In what's become a running theme this season, the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers gave their fans yet another huge victory on Monday. They blew past Alamosa 66-43. The win was nothing new for Montezuma-Cortez as they're now sitting on three straight.
Taylor Whited continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, almost dropping a double-double on 20 points and nine steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Milah Begay was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with two steals.
Alamosa's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Morgan Ortega, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jaelin Garcia, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Montezuma-Cortez pushed their record up to 8-6 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.7 points per game. As for Alamosa, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Montezuma-Cortez will square off against Dove Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Dove Creek will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Montezuma-Cortez surely won't give up without a fight. Alamosa is on the road again on Friday and plays Centauri at 5:30 p.m. on February 9th.
