Christopher and Prospect are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Cougars will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Christopher has four straight wins, Prospect has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Christopher is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Del Mar on Thursday as they made off with a 20-2 victory. Considering the Cougars have won 12 matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Katelyn Vega looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Christopher got a massive performance out of Audrina Cabanlit, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Alyssa Farrow was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Christopher kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Prospect's offense. They came up short against Lincoln on Thursday, falling 10-0.
Christopher's win bumped their record up to 15-7. As for Prospect, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-12.
Prospect's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Christopher has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Prospect, though, as they've been averaging 9 hits. Given Christopher's sizable advantage in that area, the Panthers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Christopher couldn't quite finish off Prospect in their previous meeting back in March and fell 4-2. Will the Cougars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
