Ursuline dropped down to 12-6 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Marlington Dukes by a score of 6-5. The Fighting Irish were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Dukes apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2022.
Emma Davies put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Alice S made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Brooke B, who went 2-for-4 with two triples, one run, and one RBI.
As for Marlington, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 16-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games.
On Marlington's side, Justine Doringo spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Chelsea Miller, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Peterson, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ursuline will host Champion at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Fighting Irish's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Golden Flashes have averaged an impressive 10.6 runs per game this season. As for Marlington, they will take on Archbishop Hoban at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Dukes' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
