The Perry Pumas will venture away from home to square off against the Williams Field Black Hawks at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Perry is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
While Perry didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on Mohave with a sharp 10-1 win on Saturday. The Pumas haven't had any issues with the Thunderbirds recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Brynlee Brassfield made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Brassfield was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in home runs.
In other batting news, Sammie Kaufmann-Warner was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. CC Hall also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Perry hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in 16 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Williams Field posted their closest win since April 12, 2024 last Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past San Luis 10-9. The win was some much needed relief for the Black Hawks as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
The team relied heavily on Jyllian Skoda, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Kam Christansen, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Perry's record is now 7-4. As for Williams Field, the victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 6-4-1.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Perry has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .462. However, it's not like Williams Field struggles in that department as they've averaged .462. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Perry took their win against Williams Field in their previous meeting back in April of 2016 by a conclusive 11-1. Does Perry have another victory up their sleeve, or will Williams Field turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
