West Wendover is 1-9 against White Pine since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Wolverines will face off against the Bobcats at 9:30 a.m.
West Wendover saw some tournament action on Friday. They came up short against Pyramid Lake, falling 13-2.
West Wendover saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aiyana Gonzales, who went 1-for-2 with one home run. Yaretzi Saucedo was another, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, White Pine got themselves on the board against Pershing County on Friday, but Pershing County never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 16-0 victory. The Bobcats haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Laila Trujillo made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Trujillo was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Layla Ruesch was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addie Costello, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
White Pine's record now sits at 2-0. As for West Wendover, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
West Wendover might still be hurting after the 15-4 defeat they got from White Pine in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
