The Coolidge Bears will look to defend their home court on Saturday against the Globe Tigers at 7:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Coolidge's favor as the squad sits on nine straight wins at home while Globe has been banged up by eight consecutive losses on the road.
Coolidge struggled with assists on Wednesday (Gilbert Christian had 11 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Coolidge took a hard 67-52 fall against Gilbert Christian.
Despite the defeat, Coolidge saw an underclassman step up: Tory Gholston scored 30 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gholston has scored all season. Isaiah Slaughter was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds.
Globe suffered their biggest loss since December 11, 2023 on Wednesday. They were dealt a 69-31 loss at the hands of Benjamin Franklin. Globe has struggled against Benjamin Franklin recently, as their game on Wednesday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Globe had strong showings from Jonas Dillon, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds, and Josiah Cutter, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Coolidge's defeat dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Globe, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which is still a better percentage than their 5-17 record this season.
Keep an eye on the arc in Saturday's matchup: Coolidge have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 5.3 threes per game. However, it's not like Globe struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.9 threes per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Coolidge against Globe in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 91-56 victory. Will Coolidge repeat their success, or does Globe have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
