Santa Anna scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Zephyr, 40-20. At the time, the Bulldogs were ranked 20th in the state, while the Mountaineers were 29th.
Rochelle extended the longest winning streak in 1A 6 Man 1 Region III District 9 (6 Man) this week by beating May, 66-64. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Hornets.
Santa Anna's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Mountaineers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Michael Valencia has thrown for 473 yards this season, while Zack Diaz has 11 catches for 211 yards. Valencia also leads the league in rushing with 1295 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Lometa takes on Santa Anna. At the moment, the Hornets are in sixth, while Cameron Norris' team is in first.
The Mountaineers were able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting Zephyr. Santa Anna came in at 20 in the state poll after placing at number 29 last week.
