Westwood (Mesa, Ariz.) fell 27-7 to
Mesa (Ariz.).
After taking the lead on a touchdown run in the second quarter, the Jackrabbits led 14-7 at the half.
Mesa grew its lead to 13 points entering the fourth quarter. MHS scored two times in the third, including once on a field goal by
Noe Pereles.
Westwood's only touchdown came on a 13-yard run by
Ethan Johnson in the second quarter.
A 21-14 Mesa victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The victory was a step in the right direction for Mesa, which was coming off a 7-3 defeat at the hands of Highland in its previous game. The loss comes after Westwood defeated Maryvale 64-0 last week. The loss snapped Westwood's two-game winning streak.
Mesa (2-1) goes up against Valley Vista in a non-conference game matchup next week, while Westwood (2-1) locks horns with Gila Ridge also in a non-conference game.
