The Edgewood Academy Wildcats will take on the Southern Academy Cougars at 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Edgewood Academy will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.
With a playoff game on the line, Edgewood Academy rose to the challenge on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Saints 57-27 at home. Edgewood Academy has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 17 matches by 22 points or more this season.
Lindsey Brown continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, almost dropping a triple-double on 21 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 14 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexie Smith, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Southern Academy came tearing into Friday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Lakeside School by a score of 42-31.
Southern Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kaitlyn Sluder out in front who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Madeline Chapman, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and four steals.
Edgewood Academy pushed their record up to 26-3 with that victory, which was their 24th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.1 points per game. As for Southern Academy, their win bumped their record up to 16-2.
Keep an eye on the arc in Wednesday's match: Edgewood Academy have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 38.5% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Southern Academy, though, as they've only made 29.6% of their threes this season. Given Edgewood Academy's sizable advantage in that area, the Cougars will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything went Edgewood Academy's way against the Cougars when the teams last played back in December of 2022 as the Wildcats made off with a 49-26 win. Will Edgewood Academy repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
