The Blackhawk Cougars pushed their score all the way to 56 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 75-56 bruising from Beaver. While losing is never fun, Blackhawk can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 417th, while Beaver is ranked 201st).
Beaver's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brady Mayo, who scored 33 points along with four steals. That makes it 12 consecutive games in which Mayo has scored at least 25% of Beaver's points. Another player making a difference was Ty Butler, who scored 26 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Blackhawk's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-7. As for Beaver, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-5.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Ambridge the next time they take the court. Blackhawk will head out to face Ambridge at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Beaver will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
