While it was all tied up 18-18 at halftime, the Y Yuma were not quite the Wray Eagles's equal in the second half on Friday. Y fell just short of Wray by a score of 37-34. Y was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Wray apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Y's loss came despite strong showings from Taryn Sheffield and Alina Moran. Sheffield scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and three steals, while Moran scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sheffield has scored all season.
Wray got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Danyelle Davis out in front who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and five blocks. That's the first time this season that Davis posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Sharon Greek, who scored 15 points along with two steals and two blocks.
This is the second loss in a row for Y and nudges their season record down to 9-3. As for Wray, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Y will challenge Peyton at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Peyton is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 66.3 points per game. As for Wray, they will head out on the road to take on Dayspring Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Dayspring Christian Academy is ranked 73rd, while Wray is ranked 95th).
