The Midway Raiders will take on the North Lenoir Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Midway is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Midway is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Cape Fear just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Colts by a score of 9-8.
Carson Tew made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-3. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
Meanwhile, North Lenoir was able to grind out a solid win over Wallace-Rose Hill on Tuesday, taking the game 9-6. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Mason Sasser was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Ethan Smith was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Jayden Miller, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
North Lenoir kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matches.
North Lenoir now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Midway, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Midway has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like North Lenoir struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Midway came out on top in a nail-biter against North Lenoir in their previous matchup last Wednesday, sneaking past 8-7. Does Midway have another victory up their sleeve, or will North Lenoir turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
