The Whitehall-Yearling Rams will venture away from home to face off against the Worthington Christian Warriors at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. Whitehall-Yearling has given up an average of 9 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Whitehall-Yearling is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Grandview Heights on Friday. They came up short against the Bobcats, falling 12-1. The Rams have struggled against the Bobcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Whitehall-Yearling saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Stace, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, the third road match was the charm for Worthington Christian, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They walked away with a 13-9 win over Bexley on Friday. The Warriors' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Evie Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and seven unearned) runs on nine hits. The game marked her first with multiple earned runs this season.
At the plate, Worthington Christian let Annah Niehoff and Hadassah Leverette run wild. Niehoff went 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI, while Leverette scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those runs marked the first that Niehoff scored this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelyn Szczygiel-Hicks, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Worthington Christian's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Whitehall-Yearling, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.
Whitehall-Yearling's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's game. The Rams have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Worthington Christian, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Whitehall-Yearling continue to outrun the ball?
Whitehall-Yearling couldn't quite get it done against Worthington Christian when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 16-12. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
