It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Hawthorne Bears can now relate to. They suffered a tough 35-14 loss at the hands of Mountain Lakes on Friday. Hawthorne's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mountain Lakes to victory, but perhaps none more so than Carson Fitch, who rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries. Fitch was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 62 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Marco Dzamba, who picked up 124 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Mountain Lakes' defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Cosmo Fusco was especially locked on to Hawthorne's QB and sacked him twice.
Hawthorne's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Mountain Lakes, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.
Hawthorne does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Mountain Lakes is on the road again on Friday and play against Shabazz at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. Shabazz is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
