Softball Game Preview: Mize Bulldogs vs. Pisgah Dragons

For the second straight game, Mize will face off against Pisgah. The Bulldogs will head out on the road to take on the Dragons at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mize is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

Mize heads in on the heels of a playoff match on Wednesday. They lost 18-2 to Pisgah.

For Pisgah's part, Alyssa McMurtrey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. McMurtrey has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one triple.

In other batting news, Maddi Byrd was incredible, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted two runs, the most she's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Alex Holeman, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, two RBI, and one double.

Pisgah always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mize only posted an OBP of .208.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Pisgah, bringing their record up to 23-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Mize, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 20-12.

Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mize hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .316. However, it's not like Pisgah struggles in that department as they've averaged .357. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
