After flying high against the Sylvan-Lucas Mustangs on Saturday, the Smith Center Redmen came back down to earth. Smith Center took a 54-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Washington County. While losing is never fun, Smith Center can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 271st, while Washington County is ranked 79th).
Smith Center lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Reed Doane, who scored nine points along with five assists and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Brant Wilson, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Smith Center bumped their record down to 1-4 with that loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Washington County, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.
Smith Center will be home for the holidays to greet Oakley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Oakley comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Washington County, they will head out on the road to face off against Centralia at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
