Copper Basin extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-14. They came up short against the Robbinsville Black Knights, falling 16-6. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 13-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2025.
Copper Basin got a massive performance out of Trent Hughes, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Crowder, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.
As for Robbinsville, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 18 runs.
On Robbinsville's side, Xamuel Wachacha made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Wachacha posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, earning three runs and two stolen bases.
In other batting news, Robbinsville got a massive performance out of Luke Lovin, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. The Black Knights are 7-1 when Lovin posts two or more runs, but 1-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Benton Gibby, who went 2-for-4 with six stolen bases and three runs.
Looking ahead, Copper Basin will head out on the road to face off against Lookout Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Robbinsville, they will be playing at home against Swain County at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
