Mary Star of the Sea moved up to 860 from 923 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Del Rey. The Stars climbed the ranks as a result of falling to La Salle 47-6.
The Lancers extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Mary Star of the Sea, 47-6. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
Russell Gordon's team's dynamic duo of Austin Wallis and Jared Akins proved tough for Dino Andrie's team to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Wallis threw for 176 yards and four touchdowns and Akins had 98 yards receiving. Jalen Gray helped La Salle's passing attack out by catching six balls for 46 yards.
Jared Gonzales was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 126 yards on 19 carries as Cantwell-Sacred Heart bested the Stars. Timothy Walsh also contributed to the rushing game with 17 yards on the ground.
La Salle's Wallis and Gray have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Del Rey in both passing and receiving yards. Wallis has thrown for 981 yards this season, while Gray, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 21 catches for 291 yards. Gonzales from the Cardinals leads the league in rushing with 785 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place La Salle takes on second place Bishop Montgomery. The Lancers topped Mary Star of the Sea last week, while Bishop Montgomery.
