Baseball Recap: Stover Takes a Loss

Stover came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Versailles Tigers, falling 15-2. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Gavin Welpman and Dustin Koeller stepped up to the plate in a big way. Welpman went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run, while Koeller went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and one double. Welpman has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Braden Worthley, who earned one run and two stolen bases.

Stover's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Versailles, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 2-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stover will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Calvary Lutheran at 5:00 p.m. on April 6. As for Versailles, they will welcome Missouri Military Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
