The Union Academy Cardinals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of North Stanly by a score of 63-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Union Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Aidan Scruitsky, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Scruitsky has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Miles Mcginnis, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
Even though they lost, Union Academy were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. This was only their 12th loss (out of 15 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Union Academy has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season. As for North Stanly, their victory bumped their record up to 14-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Union Academy will take on the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. North Stanly is on the road again on Friday and plays the Knights at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Gray Stone Day will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 666th, while the Comets are ranked 317th).
