Softball Recap: Lyons Sets Scoring Season-High Against Proviso West

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lyons). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Proviso West Panthers a 16-0 shutout on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Lucy Lee looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lyons let Paxton Cutler and Mia Jovicic run wild. Cutler went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double, while Jovicic went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Those three hits gave Jovicic a new career-high. Maddy Pieroni was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Lyons always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .920. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory (which was Lyons' third in a row) raised their record to 10-13. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Proviso West, they are on a 22-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.
