With a playoff game on the line, the Mancos Bluejays rose to the challenge on Saturday. Everything went their way against Lyons as Mancos made off with a 44-22 win. The result was nothing new for Mancos, who have now won ten contests by 22 points or more so far this season.
It was another big night for Kail Wayman, who rushed for 233 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Chris Medina also helped out as he racked up 121 rushing yards.
Despite the loss, Lyons still got an impressive performance from Miles Dumbauld, who rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries, and also picked up 49 receiving yards. Dumbauld was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 62 yards.
The win was the eighth in a row for Mancos, bringing their record for this year to 11-1. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 8-3 Dove Creek and 5-3 Norwood (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 57.3% over those games). As for Lyons, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-1.
Mancos will face off against Haxtun at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Haxtun is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road. Lyons does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
