Johnson has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Calvary Day Cavaliers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Johnson will be strutting in after a victory while Calvary Day will be coming in after a loss.
Johnson proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 26) but on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged Long County out 59-56. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Johnson has posted yet this season.
Johnson's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Favion Kirkwood, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds, and Joshua Quarterman, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Kirkwood continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kadin Davis, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Calvary Day came up short against Liberty County on Tuesday and fell 57-50. While losing is never fun, Calvary Day can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 326th, while Liberty County is ranked 141st).
Johnson's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Calvary Day, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-12.
Johnson strolled past Calvary Day in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a score of 75-58. The rematch might be a little tougher for Johnson since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
