Softball Recap: Stevensville Victorious

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Stevensville ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They skirted past the Hamilton Broncs 10-9. Ten seems to be a good number for the Yellowjackets as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Morgan Yeager spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up ten Ks.

At the plate, Lilly Newsom and Jaidan Oyler did most of the damage at the plate: Newsom went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Oyler went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Newsom is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Davids, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Stevensville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in six consecutive matchups.

Stevensville is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Hamilton, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stevensville will take on East Helena at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Yellowjackets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vigilantes have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season. As for Hamilton, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Frenchtown at 7:00 p.m. on the 29th.
