The Smithfield Packers fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Bruton Panthers on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 68-65. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Brandon Freeman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Bruton, scoring 17 points along with five assists and three steals. Freeman is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Khamani Phillips, who scored 16 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Smithfield and nudges their season record down to 7-6. As for Bruton, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.
Smithfield will head out on the road to square off against Lafayette at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Bruton, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Grafton at 7:00 p.m.
