With a playoff win on the line, North Reading rose to the challenge on Friday. They put the hurt on the Arlington Catholic Cougars with a sharp 10-3 victory. Considering the Hornets have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

The win (which was North Reading's ninth in a row) raised their record to 26-4. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Arlington Catholic, they moved to 19-7 with that defeat, which also ended their eight-game winning streak.

North Reading will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Cougars: the pair will be back at it again later today.
