The defense contributed on the scoring end for
Palm Springs (Calif.) on Saturday, totaling 11 points as the Indians bested Coachella Valley (Thermal, Calif.) 62-0.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Riley Hagar to
Michael Greer in the first quarter, the Indians led 42-0 at the half.
Palm Springs expanded its lead to 62 points entering the fourth quarter. PS scored three times in the third, including once on a punt return touchdown.
The Indians scored 12 points on special teams on the way to the victory.
Palm Springs' standout player in the win was Greer. He caught two touchdowns. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
PS had given up an average of 14.2 points prior to the contest.
A 59-0 Palm Springs victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The victory was a step in the right direction for Palm Springs, which was coming off a 44-9 defeat at the hands of Redlands in its previous game.
Coachella Valley (1-5) goes up against La Quinta in a Desert Valley game matchup next week, while Palm Springs (4-2) locks horns with Palm Desert also in a Desert Valley game.
