The Ponchatoula Green Wave will head out on the road to face off against the Hammond Tornadoes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Friday, Ponchatoula and St. Paul's were almost perfectly matched up, but Ponchatoula suffered an agonizing 20-19 defeat. It was the first time this season that Ponchatoula let down their fans at home.
Ponchatoula might have lost, but man, Bishop Davis was a machine: he rushed for 186 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.2 yards per carry.
Meanwhile, Hammond's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 44-6 defeat at the hands of Mandeville. Hammond was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 23-0.
Ponchatoula's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Hammond, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.
Ponchatoula beat Hammond 28-18 when the teams last played back in November of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ponchatoula since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
