The Woodlan Warriors will face off against the Adams Central Flying Jets at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Woodlan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Woodlan is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Churubusco just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 5-4.
Woodlan got a good showing from Nolan Meeks, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits Meeks has allowed since back in April.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Adams Central). They put the hurt on Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian with a sharp 16-6 victory on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Flying Jets sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Cade Van De Weg spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Hayden Bluhm was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Everett, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Adams Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian struck out eight times.
Adams Central pushed their record up to 13-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Woodlan, they now have a losing record of 13-14.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Woodlan has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Adams Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Woodlan might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Adams Central in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
