West Brunswick is 1-9 against Laney since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
West Brunswick fought the good fight in their overtime match against Hoggard last Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 66-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vikings. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on January 9th (55), the Trojans still had to take the loss.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from K'Veon Griffin, who went 5 for 8 en route to 16 points. He is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Matthew McKenney, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 15 points.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Laney over Ashley in every quarter on their way to victory last Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Laney blew Ashley out of the water with a 75-46 final score. Given the Buccaneers' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Screaming Eagle are ranked 304th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Laney's win came from a few key players West Brunswick will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Colin Lamb, who made all 5 shots he took racking up 10 points. Dylan Fortun was another key player, putting up 12 points.
Laney smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.
West Brunswick's loss dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Laney, their win bumped their record up to 9-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: West Brunswick has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 22.2 boards per game. However, it's not like Laney struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
West Brunswick lost to Laney on the road by a decisive 52-35 margin when the teams last played back in December of 2024. Can West Brunswick avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
