Trot Moody was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out 11 batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Old Orchard Beach's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Wesley Gallant was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs and two stolen bases. He has become a key player for Old Orchard Beach: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Colby Salamacha, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Mount Abram owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Thursday. They put the hurt on Sacopee Valley with a sharp 6-0 win. The Roadrunners might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.
The result came thanks to Logan Dube's shutout, as he gave up just two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ash Rollins, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run. He has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last ten times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaiden Longley, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Mount Abram's victory bumped their record up to 13-4. As for Old Orchard Beach, their win bumped their record up to 10-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Old Orchard Beach has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mount Abram struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Old Orchard Beach couldn't quite finish off Mount Abram in their previous meeting back in May and fell 14-12. Can the Seagulls avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
