The Scott Central Rebels will head out on the road to face off against the Pelahatchie Chiefs at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Having struggled with 12 defeats in a row dating back to last season, Scott Central turned things around against Ridgeland on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 17-2 margin over the Titans. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Rebels have posted since March 21, 2024.
Meanwhile, Pelahatchie put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Leake Central 16-4. While the Chiefs didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Ava Till was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. She also put up a stolen base, which was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addison Irby, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (four). Khloe McLaurin was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.
Pelahatchie kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in four consecutive matchups.
Pelahatchie's victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs over those games. As for Scott Central, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Scott Central suffered a grim 19-6 defeat to Pelahatchie in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Scott Central avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
