Hubbard is 1-6 against Marlin since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Hubbard Jaguars will head out on the road to challenge the Marlin Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m.
Hubbard suffered their biggest loss since December 14, 2023 on Friday. They suffered a rough 64-40 defeat at the hands of Dawson. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Hubbard has suffered against Dawson since January 26, 2018.
Meanwhile, Marlin had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.3 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They claimed a resounding 73-20 win over Riesel on the road. Marlin has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 22 points or more this season.
Marlin got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Aarik Smith-shelley out in front who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Smith-shelley hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Jerry Willis was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Hubbard's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-11. As for Marlin, they pushed their record up to 10-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Hubbard was taken down by Marlin 67-40 when the teams last played back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Smith-shelley, who scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and four blocks.
