Sophie Parker made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last four times she's played.
Parker wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Michelle Hendee, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Hendee is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fair Haven). They blew past Windsor 15-4 on Wednesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Slaters as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Like Otter Valley, Fair Haven also got a great game from a two-way player: Tori Raymond. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Raymond was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brianna Gebo, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Amelia Munger was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
Fair Haven kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Windsor only managed seven hits.
Otter Valley's record now sits at 11-3. As for Fair Haven, the win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Otter Valley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Fair Haven struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Otter Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against Fair Haven in their previous matchup back in April, sneaking past 10-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Otters since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
