The McCallie Blue Tornado put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They secured a 31-27 W over Knoxville Catholic. Given McCallie's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked first, while Knoxville Catholic is ranked 32nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Javon Mcmahan continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 188 yards and three touchdowns. Mcmahan is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played.
When it comes to explaining why Knoxville Catholic lost, one person who can't be blamed is Braylon Harmon. Despite the final result, he picked up 117 receiving yards and a touchdown. Quincy Pannell made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Even if they lost, Knoxville Catholic's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Leading the way was Keilyn Smith and his two sacks.
McCallie's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 9-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.8 points per game. As for Knoxville Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McCallie will square off against Lipscomb Academy at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Knoxville Catholic, they will head out on the road to face off against Baylor at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Baylor's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last eight games.
