Goshen Central has gone a perfect 9-0 against Monticello recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Gladiators will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 4:15 p.m. Goshen Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Goshen Central made easy work of Roosevelt and carried off a 14-2 win. The Gladiators have beaten the Presidents the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Presidents has come to flipping the script.
Addison Freiberger made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and only one walk). Freiberger was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Mia Antolino and Sophia Springer did most of the damage at the plate: Antolino went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Springer went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI Antolino has posted since back in May of 2024. Bailey Gomulka was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Goshen Central hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Monticello was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Washingtonville, falling 16-4.
Monticello saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alexandra Cushing, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Monticello's loss dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Goshen Central, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
Monticello's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Goshen Central has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Monticello, though, as they've been averaging 8.7 hits. Given Goshen Central's sizable advantage in that area, the Panthers will need to find a way to close that gap.
