Basketball Recap: Centennial Comes Up Short

Centennial was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They fell 54-46 to the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Patriots of the 50-22 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Centennial still got an impressive performance from Pepper Smith, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. Those 15 points gave Smith a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Julia Lechuga, who posted seven points.

Rocky Mountain was led to victory by Logan Sailors and Mckenzie Bybee. Sailors went 6 for 15 en route to 20 points and five steals, while Bybee almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. Bybee has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last six times she's played. Campbell Wilson was another key player, putting up four points in addition to eight assists and five steals.

Centennial's defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Rocky Mountain, they pushed their record up to 12-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Centennial didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 59-52 victory against Meridian on the 23rd. As for Rocky Mountain, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 58-42 loss against Boise on the 23rd.
