The Kearny Kardinals''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They were outmatched by Indian Hills on the road and fell 56-13. Kearny was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-7.
Indian Hills can attribute much of their success to Joe Cortese, who rushed for 140 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. Cortese was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 57 yards. Anthony Franchina was in the mix as well, providing Indian Hills with two touchdowns.
Kearny's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 1-7. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 6.8 points per game. As for Indian Hills, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-4.
Kearny will be playing in front of their home fans against Bergen Tech at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bergen Tech comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Indian Hills, they will head out on the road to face off against Cliffside Park on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Jersey (Cliffside Park is ranked 299th, while Indian Hills is ranked 291st).
