Burney has gone a perfect 3-0 against Butte Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Raiders will challenge the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,117 yards in their previous games.
Burney is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They strolled past Chester with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 52-34. The win continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Volcanoes: they've now won three in a row.
Liam Von Schalscha had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 372 yards and four TDs while picking up 12.8 yards per carry. His longest rush was for an incredible 91 yards. Killian Biles also helped out as he racked up 100 rushing yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Burney was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 473 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.
Burney didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Biles and Zeke Schottel. Burney got some further help from Greeley Wolfin: he picked up a sack and made eight total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Butte Valley against Westwood two weeks ago as the squad secured a 66-18 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won four matchups by 22 points or more so far this season.
One reason for the win was Butte Valley's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Ezra Burrow, Alexis Delgado, and Jake Leonard, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Butte Valley now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Burney, their record now sits at 6-4.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Burney has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 205.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Butte Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 246.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Burney against Butte Valley in their previous meeting back in September, as the team secured a 44-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
