The Scotts Hill Lions will challenge the Loretto Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
It was a proper cat-fight when Scotts Hill challenged Riverside on Tuesday. The Lions blew past the Panthers 12-2. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won three in a row.
Chandler Crider made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Scotts Hill's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 2-1 (and 2-10-1 when he doesn't). Crider was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other pitching news, Scotts Hill got a great performance from Jonas Howard as he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.

Back at the plate, Brady Beecham was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Scotts Hill is 2-1 when Beecham posts two or more runs, but 2-10-1 otherwise. Cy Maness was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Scotts Hill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 10.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Loretto). They never let Battle Creek get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Mustangs with their most commanding win of the season.
Grayson Burleson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was John Will Tucker, who went 1-for-2 with four RBI and one double.
The win made it two in a row for Loretto and bumps their season record up to 4-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Scotts Hill, their win bumped their record up to 4-11-1.
Scotts Hill might still be hurting after the 12-1 loss they got from Loretto in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
