The Empire Ravens's five-game losing streak came to an end on Wednesday. They pulled ahead with a 76-75 photo finish over Sabino. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Empire's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Khari Gurley led the charge by scoring 20 points. Another player making a difference was Donovan Davidson, who scored 22 points.
Sabino lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Spencer Larson, who scored 19 points along with three steals. Caden Watkins was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Sabino were working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Empire only racked up ten assists.
Empire's victory bumped their record up to 14-10. As for Sabino, their loss dropped their record down to 8-13.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Empire will challenge Catalina at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sabino, they will head out on the road to square off against Pusch Ridge Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pusch Ridge Christian Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Sabino likes a good challenge.
