The Lowell Red Devils lost against the Merrillville Pirates back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Lowell lost to Merrillville at home by a decisive 45-28 margin. Lowell has struggled against Merrillville recently, as their matchup on Tuesday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Lowell's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gatlin Hanrath, who scored five points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Mielczarek, who scored 11 points.
Nyesha Davis continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Merrillville, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Davis is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Malika Jenkins, who scored six points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Lowell's defeat dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Merrillville, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 15-8.
Lowell will head out on the road to face off against Whiting at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Whiting focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Thursday. As for Merrillville, they will face off against Hammond Morton at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Hammond Morton's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six matches.
