After a string of four wins, Cardinal Gibbons' good fortune finally ran out on Friday. Their tough 34-14 loss to Clearwater Central Catholic might stick with them for a while. Cardinal Gibbons was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 20-0.
Although Cardinal Gibbons took the loss, they still got scores from Patrick Anderson jr. and Derrek Cooper.
Meanwhile, Stranahan put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They breezed by Fort Lauderdale on the road to the tune of 30-0. The win was just what Stranahan needed coming off of a 44-24 loss in their prior contest.
Rueben Toombs jr was the offensive standout of the matchup as he threw for 261 yards and four touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Hoggins, who picked up 59 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Stranahan's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. James Lewis was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Cardinal Gibbons' loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Stranahan, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-5.
Everything went Cardinal Gibbons' way against Stranahan in their previous meeting two weeks ago as Cardinal Gibbons made off with a 44-24 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Stranahan's Tyler Jackson, who rushed for 162 yards while picking up 9.0 yards per carry, and also threw for 221 yards and two touchdowns. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Cardinal Gibbons still be able to contain him? There's only one way to find out.
