The Grand Terrace Titans will be playing at home against the Hillcrest Trojans at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Thursday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Grand Terrace beat Rialto 55-51. Given Grand Terrace's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 439th, while Rialto is ranked 895th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
In what's become a running theme this season, Hillcrest gave their fans yet another huge victory on Thursday. They breezed by La Sierra at home to the tune of 86-46. The victory was familiar territory for Hillcrest who now have five in a row.
Hillcrest relied on the efforts of McKel Shedrick, who scored 27 points, and Nate Bowden, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Darius Taylor, who scored seven points along with five assists and two steals.
Grand Terrace's win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-10. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.4 points per game. As for Hillcrest, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.
Grand Terrace came up short against Hillcrest when the teams last played back in December of 2018, falling 74-61. Thankfully for Grand Terrace, Sebastian Mendoza (who shot 5-for-8 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 49 points and 20 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
