The Lone Star Longhorns were the 69-34 winner over the Weldon Valley Warriors when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Lone Star was just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 41-40 to Weldon Valley. Lone Star has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Wyatt Cochran and Grant Kuntz certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Cochran scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Kuntz scored nine points along with 12 rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cochran has scored all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Weldon Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zander Braun, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Braun scored 15 or more points. August Filter was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with two steals.
Lone Star dropped their record down to 3-6 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Weldon Valley, their win ended a 11-game drought at home and bumped them up to 1-9.
Lone Star will take on Front Range Baptist at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Front Range Baptist focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Tuesday. As for Weldon Valley, they will head out on the road to square off against Two Roads Charter School at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Two Roads Charter School is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
