The Howard Lions pushed their score all the way to 63 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 74-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of River Hill. While losing is never fun, Howard can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while River Hill is ranked 29th).
River Hill had a senior duo take command as Braden Sauritch scored 20 points along with eight steals and seven assists and Soma Unegbu scored 21 points along with seven rebounds. Sauritch is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of OJ Ndu, who scored eight points along with three steals and two blocks.
Howard's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-7. As for River Hill, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Howard will face off against Atholton at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Atholton will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Howard surely won't give up without a fight. As for River Hill, they will head out on the road to challenge Wilde Lake at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in River Hill's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
