Baseball Recap: Benton Wins Going Away Against Sugar Valley Rural

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Muncy, Benton was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Sugar Valley Rural Phoenix with a sharp 14-2 win. That looming 14-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Tigers yet this season.

Ben Farwell made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Benton: the team is undefeated when he allows at most three hits, but 2-3 otherwise. Farwell was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dalton Koch, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Benton is undefeated when Koch posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Paxton Hart also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Benton's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-3. As for Sugar Valley Rural, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-6-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Benton will square off against Bloomsburg at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Tigers are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Sugar Valley Rural, they will host Northwest Area at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
